ORIGINAL FLYER FOR THIS WONDERFUL SUBDIVISION

Yes there are many subdivisions in the Kailua-Kona area (tax map keys 3-7-5 to 3-7-9) but if you are looking for that unique feel of old Kona this is one of the neighborhood for you to consider on your home purchase.

The original lots began being sold back in the early 1960’s. Marlin Road which sits at the top of the Sunset subdivision had just four homes built by the late 1960’s including the home I now own that my parents built back in 1967. There are a very small handful left of those original homeowners but resale owners have stayed many years and the original homeowners have passed homes on to their families because it is so very special. Adjacent on the mauka side of Marlin Road are a few of the special subdivisions surrounding the area. Holualoa Estates with 15,000 square foot lots, Kona Sunshine Estates with 1 acre parcels (not to mention some of the most beautiful homes in Kona). Puuwai Alii Estates a small private road enclave of some beautiful homes located at the end of Ono Road in Holualoa Estates. Above Kona Sunshine Estates sits Kalamaka which basically translates to money mountain. An old friend of the family once owned that large parcel and decided one day to sell it with the thought that made a lot of money for him so he appropriately named it Kalamauka!

Back to Sunset View Terrace the location is ideal and is a central position tucked between Keauhou Resort and downtown Kailua-Kona above the Queen Kaahumanu Hwy. There is a dog friendly walking trail along Walua Rd, incredible panoramic ocean views from many of the current homes, NO street lights which I absolutely love, a cooler elevation sitting above Kuakini Hwy, and really the name says it all SUNSET!

One of my most fondest memories as a small keiki was playing outside and Sunset Drive was the only access to Marlin Road and I use to find old rusted railroad nails in the dirt up and down the street. Times have changed, the decades have brought new developments and access roads in the area but Kona Sunset still retains a bit of that charm of yesterday.
