Situated on the Big Island of Hawaii, the district of Hilo is divided into two parts; North Hilo (Hilo ‘Akau) and South Hilo District (Hilo Hema). North Hilo’s climate is hot and humid throughout most of the year. On average, the temperature remains between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, occasionally reaching up into the 90s on a hot summer day. Residents enjoy tropical sunny skies for much of the year but the district does receive around 50 inches of rainfall every year.

Hilo Bay has open farm markets where vendors sell locally made goods and fresh produce. The Hilo farmers market is a charming place filled with artisan crafts, jewels, artwork, plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, tropical coffee, flowers, honey, and bread. In downtown Hilo, the main town in North Hilo, residents can enjoy a range of boutique shops, restaurants, art galleries, and museums.

North Hilo is a great spot for families to live and play. There is a range of great schools in the district for children to attend and plenty of job opportunities are available for residents in the tourism, retail, hospitality, and infrastructure sectors.
